The Woodlands High School Wrestling

Who We Are

Woodlands Wrestling is one of the most storied athletic programs at The Woodlands High School. We are a community of student athletes, coaches, and families united by a commitment to excellence — on the mat and in the classroom.

Our program develops not just wrestlers, but leaders. We believe the discipline, resilience, and work ethic forged in the wrestling room carry our athletes far beyond their high school years.

Coaching Staff

2026–2027 Season

Coach AJ Lyczkowski
AJ Lyczkowski
Head Coach
A Pennsylvania native, Coach Lyczkowski compiled a 102–33 record at Methacton High School — including 65 pins and the program's fastest pin in history at just 5 seconds. A 3-time sectional champion, 2-time district placer, 1-time regional champion, and PA AAA State Tournament qualifier, he earned a Division I scholarship to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he was a 4-year letterman (46–28 collegiate record), two-time Southern Conference Championships third-place finisher, and earned his B.A. in Sociology. After helping four freshmen and sophomores qualify for regionals in back-to-back seasons at Olney High School in Philadelphia, he now serves as a Special Education teacher and Head Wrestling Coach at The Woodlands High School.

Eligibility & Requirements

  • 📋Athletes must maintain UIL academic eligibility — no grade below 70 in any class.
  • 🏥A current sports physical on file with the TWHS Athletics office is required before the first practice.
  • 📝All UIL participation forms must be signed by a parent or guardian prior to participation.
  • ⚖️Wrestlers must make weight on the day of each competition per UIL weight management rules.
  • 👕Proper practice attire required: wrestling shoes, singlets, shorts, spandex, joggers, sweatpants, and a fitted shirt or compression top.
  • 🎓Student athletes are expected to attend all practices unless an absence is communicated to a coach in advance.

School-provided transportation is available to all away meets. Details will be communicated via team app or email.

Athletes may letter by meeting attendance, competition, and performance standards set by the coaching staff each season.

Athlete Resources

  • 💪
    Conditioning: Off-season work carries over. Running, strength training, and flexibility all help on the mat.
  • 🧠
    Mental prep: Coaches will provide resources on focus, competition mindset, and handling adversity.
  • 🥗
    Nutrition: Fuel properly. Never cut weight unsafely. Talk to a coach about weight class placement.
  • 🛌
    Recovery: Sleep 8–9 hours. Report injuries to coaches immediately — do not wrestle through pain without clearance.
  • 📚
    Academics first: Your eligibility depends on your grades. Use tutoring resources proactively.
